Fun, Cool Adjectives

Today, I’m going to share some fun, cool activities to practise adjectives.  Adjectives are such a useful kind of word, and many of our students just don’t use enough of them, don’t you think?

So, in this post, I thought I’d share a few activities to help you – and your students have fun – with adjectives!

First, a matching activity.

Which group of words (a, b, c, d) matches which adjective (1,2,3,4)?

1 These things can be funny.a) butterflies, flowers, the sky, rainbows, views
2 In scary stories, you can find …b) a video, a song, a pop star, a TV programme
3 What’s cool?c) a story, a cartoon, laughing with my friends, a TV programme
4 Nice people …d) spiders, monsters, aliens, snakes, dark rooms
5 Look around and find these beautiful things!e) smile, say nice things, answer your questions, listen, clap, love animals

Next, students write their own words for each adjective.

I find these things easy to do.…………………………………………………………………..
…………………………………………………………………..
But these things are difficult!…………………………………………………………………..
…………………………………………………………………..
Mmmm These foods are delicious!…………………………………………………………………..
…………………………………………………………………..
When I’m feeling lazy, I don’t want to ……………………………………………………………………..
…………………………………………………………………..
I’m lucky because I have ……………………………………………………………………..
…………………………………………………………………..
Clever people can ……………………………………………………………………..
…………………………………………………………………..

Then, they could say a group of words and their partner says which word (easy, difficult, delicious, lazy, lucky, clever) the group of words matches.

I’ve prepared a pdf version of this activity. You can download it here.

2 Adjective accrostics

Give students an adjective and they write words starting with (or containing) each letter. Or, they can choose the adjective. To help them with this, why not give them the A2 Flyers wordlist and they can choose words from there?

e.g.

f ilm

a dventure

n ews

t eam

a rtist

s mell

t rip

i dea

c ompetition

3 More find its for A1 Movers and A2 Flyers!

The Find-its I wrote and shared for A1 Movers and A2 Flyers have proved very popular, so I’ve prepared one more for each level!

They don’t focus exclusively on adjectives, but there are some adjective challenges on each of them.
