Puzzle your way!

Puzzle your way to Starters and Puzzle your way to Movers are out and available to buy on Amazon!

After several months of hard work, I’m thrilled to be able to share some fantastic news!

Why did I write Puzzle your way to Starters and Puzzle your way to Movers?

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always loved puzzles. I grew up with them at home. Both my parents did the cryptic crossword every day and I still attempt it from time to time. I regularly do Sudokus, Panagrams, Wordles and many other puzzles when I have the time.

I’ve always used puzzles as part of my teaching. My students love them too. (I’ve tried out many of these puzzles with my students and the feedback has been great.)

I wanted to work on areas of English that aren’t usually covered in coursebooks, especially noticing patterns, making connections, helping students remember difficult spellings and meanings, etc. As well as using logic, thinking critically.

Why the names: Puzzle your way to Starters and Puzzle your way to Movers?

Both Starters and Movers are well-known exams produced by Cambridge English. I’ve worked with Cambridge Starters and Cambridge Movers (and Flyers) since they were launched in 1997. Most people know which level these exams are, so it gives a clear idea of which level they’re aimed at.

The books I wrote: Fun for Starters, Fun for Movers and Fun for Flyers are used by thousands of teachers around the world. Teachers often contact me and ask for more materials. Puzzle your way to Starters and Puzzle your way to Movers can complement the Fun for series (or any other coursebook at these levels).

I’ve included all the words on both the wordlists: for the paper-based Pre-A1 Starters and A1 Movers tests as well as the new digital Pre-A1 Starters and A1 Movers exams.

How has the experience of writing Puzzle your way to Starters and Puzzle your way to Movers been?

Thanks to my amazing illustrator and page designer, Kati Bilsborough, from Eltillustrator, it’s been a very smooth and inspiring journey. Throughout the project, we’ve come up with ideas and it’s incredible how much we’re totally on the same wavelength. We hope you like the results as much as we do!
